How to Create Projects and Manage Zones

How to Use Projects in the BuilderFirst Portal

Use Projects to organize lighting selections, zones, delivery details, documentation, and orders in one place.

Overview

Projects in the BuilderFirst online portal help you organize lighting jobs by project and zone. From a project, you can add products, manage delivery dates and addresses, download product documentation, and prepare selections for ordering.

1. Create a New Project

You can create a new project from either the Projects dashboard or the home page after you log in.

  1. Go to the Projects dashboard and select Create New Project, or go to the home page and select Start New Project.
  2. When the new project panel opens on the right side of the screen, enter a Project Name.
  3. Optionally add a project description.
  4. Optionally designate a Project Type. This can help you sort and organize projects later. Best Practice: 1) Use the type of building/facility or site; 2) Use the national brand or region. (For example: Costco Stores - NorthEast)
  5. Name the first zone in your project. If you do not enter a zone name, the portal will automatically create a default zone called Zone 1.
  6. Enter the required delivery date now, or leave it blank and add it later.
  7. Select Create Project.

2. Understand the Initial Zone

After the project is created, it will include one initial zone. This will either be the zone name you entered during project setup or the default zone named Zone 1. The initial zone status will display as New until you begin adding products to that zone.

3. Add and Manage Zones

Zones help you organize products and delivery needs within a project. For example, you may use zones for rooms, phases, lots, floors, or other groupings that match how your team manages the work.

  1. Open the project from your Projects dashboard.
  2. Review the list of zones within the project.
  3. Select a zone to open it and view its details.
  4. To create another zone, select Add Zone and enter the zone information in the panel on the right.
  5. If needed, assign a separate delivery date to each zone.

4. Add Delivery Information

You can add the project delivery address when you first create the project, later while you are working in the project, or when you place orders from the project. Keeping the delivery address current helps ensure products are directed to the correct location.

5. Access Existing Projects

To return to projects you have already created, open your account dashboard and go to Projects; or from the Home page, click "Continue Projects." Recent projects will be listed on the home page for easy access as well.

Each project displays its associated zones so you can quickly open the correct area of work.
